The Photographer

Mike Custer runs Fitlike Photography from Elgin in Moray. He has photographed weddings since 2014, and his work is relaxed, natural and documentary-led: real moments, atmosphere and gently guided portraits, for couples who want their day captured without it turning into a photoshoot.

Alongside weddings he photographs portraits, commercial work and Scotland’s landscapes, and he’s recognised by The Societies of Photographers. He covers Inverness, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Caithness, Fife and the wider Highlands.

The Challenge

Mike’s couples come from right across the north of Scotland, and choosing a wedding photographer is a big decision. The site needed to show the feel of his photography straight away, answer the questions couples ask before they get in touch, and help people find him when they search for a photographer in their own area, all while making room for his portraits, commercial work and landscapes.

The Solution

I designed and built a new website from scratch around Mike’s photography: big, atmospheric images, elegant Cormorant Garamond headings with Jost for the text, and a soft palette of ink, taupe and paper.

Weddings come first, and every page has a clear way to check availability.

• A section for each kind of work (weddings, portraits, commercial and landscapes), each with its own portfolio, prices and approach
• Three full-day wedding collections side by side, from £1700, plus elopements and smaller celebrations
• Location pages for wedding photography in Inverness, Aberdeen, Elgin, Caithness and Fife
• Wedding venue guides and a wedding FAQ that answer couples’ questions before they ask
• Recent weddings and a blog of real wedding stories
• A section on the 35mm film Mike uses for selected moments
• A simple cookie choice, so Google Analytics only runs if visitors agree

The outcome

The new site gives Mike a home for every side of his work, with weddings front and centre. Couples can get a feel for his style, compare collections and check his availability in a few taps.

The location pages and venue guides help couples planning weddings across the north find him, and the FAQ and clear prices mean the enquiries he gets are from people who already know what to expect.
